Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
has licensed Honeywell UOP's
methanol-to-olefin process (MTO process) to
convert methanol from gasified coal
into ethylene and propylene
to build World's largest unit
using UOP's MTO technology.
About MTO process technology
- MTO process technology ,
jointly developed by Honeywell UOP and INEOS,
- combines
Honeywell UOP/MTO Hydro process and
the Total/UOP Olefin cracking process
- The process convert methanol
from non-crude oil sources
such as Coal or Natural Gas
into Ethylene and Propylene
- The process also offers flexibility in the amount of
propylene and ethylene produced so
operators can adjust plant designs
to meet effectively address market demands.
Benefit of Methanol-to-Olefin Process Technology
- The technology allows petrochemical producers
in China and elsewhere
to tap cheaper coal and natural gas feedstocks,
rather than liquefied petroleum gas or oil ,
to produce ethylene and propylene to
meet growing demands for petrochemicals
- Currently all 4 MTO licenses are in China
possessing large coal reserves but
importing the bulk of petroleums.
